The smell of mud as the elections near and being asked at nearly every store to register to vote caused the pataphysician to simply agree even though his home state still had him as registered.
Some days are worse than others.
That's a good way to start, this one was not that bad but when I decided to let a clip board holding voter registartion person let me fill out the form I found utter dismay that I was not asked which party I wished to register as, I asked about this and he said that I could put Repulican, Democrate, Green, or dts in a space provided.
This confused me slightly being that I had seen only the California one that had a number of circles then asked if not list please state. This whole system confused me and I asked, 'I registered as a communist in California what do I put?'
I could not believe the look of confusion mixed with hatred at this statement. It was as if McCarthy-ism had returned and I was suddenly a suspect. He said,' then put dts but you can't vote in the primaries.' I thought for a very brief moment of putting down Repulican just because I had already said I was a communist so to go Repulican would sort of twist the whole meaning and make me look bizarre and out of it.
I finally said I need to verify somethings back in California before I gave them this.
There was nothing to verify I simply choose not to vote in a New Mexico primary and will probably simply go absentee from California.
An experience as this one sort of reminds me of how little things have changed. It was so forced on Americans to be anti-communists that when faced with one now a days it is utter dismay, perhaps I should have asked about the American Facist Party for the Advancement of Christ, but then I probably would have had an even wierder look.
I do realize that this may seem taudry and not really make all that much sense because of the two party system of the US but to me it really shows how 'they' don't want people to vote third party. It was as if I missed the commerical that said,'Don't throw your vote away choose a party that could win.' When left with to choose the lesser of two evils I think I shall vote a noname and be able to say how things could have been better, regardless of which party won.
Just a sort of wierd thought that I shall put into practice.
