Fabric Stores and Pattern Books

For a project in his intro to costume craft the Pataphysican must make a garment. Decided that he should go to the store early and look at the books. He discovered in a 6 in thick book not even a quater inch is given to patterns for men's clothing.

There are just times it would all be easier if I were a drag queen

This is one of those times. Having spent over an hour looking in several pattern books for something I would like in the meger 10 or less pages given to Men, Unisex, Sleepware, and Scrubs. I have decided that being a drag queen would be far easier. Not only to I have damned near an entire pattern book to choose from but it would be advantageous to getting the freak label here.

The only problem with this lays in the fact I do not know what my measure ments are or what size of a dress I would wear. I did finally find a pattern for a coat that seemed to be good enough. I can not recall if it was avalible. If it isn't I think I will try to find my size in women's and then just make my self something respectable and probably out of acetate. Reason acetate is simple. An employee at the store said,'Drag queens love it,' and if it's good enough for them by gods it's more than good enough for me. Besides I sort of like the appeal of buying a pattern and making a horride dress or skirt or blouse or whatever, out of it just to make the locals wonder. As long as I wear my boots I can probably defend myself fair enough.... unless there is some backwater law against dressing in the clothing of the opposit sex, which I wouldn't doubt if there was.

I'd say something should be done about this then I realize that there really isn't much variety in men's clothing. It is pretty much dominated by pants: where all styles look similar, Coats: same as pants mostly, Shirts: see pants, and so on. There isn't much variety and that is sort of fine, but still I would like a bit of variety and if this is the means I have to go through to get it. Such is life.
